I love all those pretty door hangers you can get at the boutique home stores.  But my conscience just can’t spend that much money on a wreath that may or may not last through the season.  So I decided to whip out my glue gun and get to crafting up a cheaper – but just as cute – version for the 4th of July.

The total cost for this project was less than $10.

Say whaaaaaa?!?!?!?!

Yep, you read that right!  Wreath form and all, this project was less than $10.

I feel like I’m totally winning a life, right now, Y’all!

Here’s the cost breakdown:

  • grapevine wreath – $5
  • red deco mesh – $1
  • linen ribbon – $2.50
  • stars – $1

The star banner and the deco mesh both came from the Dollar Tree.  I purchased the grapevine wreath from Michael’s when they were having a major sale on wreath forms.  And the linen wired ribbon was leftover from Christmas.

To make this project at home you’ll need:

  • a grapevine wreath, size is your choice, I used an 18″ wreath
  •  6 in x 5 yd decorative mesh in red
  • 2.5 in wired linen ribbon
  • glue gun & extra glue sticks
  • scissors
  • red, white, and blue star banner (from the Dollar Tree)

Directions:

  1. Remove stars from the burlap strip banner.  Discard banner and set stars to the side.
  2. To begin deco mesh loops, tye the end to a branch of the wreath.  Then, just weave the mesh to your liking up the front of one side of the wreath; hot gluing the end of each loop to secure it to the wreath.
  3. When you like the fullness of the mesh, cut off the excess.  Firmly secure the final end to the wreath with hot glue.
  4. Repeat step 3 with the linen ribbon laying the loops on top of the deco mesh loops.
  5. Using the hot glue gun, attach stars – one at a time – to the top of the ribbon.  Press firmly when gluing down: you don’t want them to fall off. 😉

stars, patriotic, fourth of july, wreath, grapevine wreath, door wreath

And that’s it!  Quick and simple!  In less than 15 minutes you’ve got a beautiful boutique style, patriotic door wreath.  No wreath making experience needed!

Plus, for less than $10, who could complain?

I think my favorite thing about this project is that you can make the ribbon loops as full as you like, to fit the wreath form that you have and your personal style.

I would love to see your finished project!
